Conversations.

One of the most special feelings you can get. Understanding people.

It is so often that one can hear how people don’t listen. Whether this is true or not I leave to debate, but I can certainly say that exactly understanding [listening to] somebody has proven to be life-changing to me.

I think it is rare to hear somebody else’s thoughts before they say them. What is the reason for this? Is it when we find people who are very much alike ourselves when we understand them to this extent? Or maybe it depends how we listen? Whatever the reason, the feeling remains special.

Sitting at a cafe with two friends I could clearly see the great beauty and uniqueness of a pure  human conversation. This can be seen only when the two are actually listening to each other. When this happens somehow everything falls into place – the expressions, the intonations… Even the clothes seem to match then. But there is this edge to the conversation and that is the property that makes it so special. A slight difference in the viewpoints, a slight argument or just a simple misunderstanding (every argument might be considered a misunderstanding…) might be the cause. Then everything suddenly changes. Perhaps the topic became trivial, or a distraction arose (a pretty waitress?). The friends smile and only someone who watches from the side might see that something happened inside both of them.

Because conversations change [us].
